IPA Fall Conference 2017 - All About Sex:
Sex and Sexuality Issues in Psychological Practice

This year's Fall Conference will feature 4 local speakers with expertise in several areas related to sexual behavior and identity and their roles in professional psychological practice. The program will include 6 total CEUs.
Cora Schuhmacher, Psy.D., will help psychologists learn to take a thorough sexual history with their clients and increase their comfort with doing so. Attendees will be led through exercises that enable them reflect on how their own sexual history and values affect how they view the world and the people they work with. (1.5 CEU)
Paula Keeton, Ph.D. will assist clinicians in understanding how therapy, terminology, and specific issues have shifted over decades in working with LGBTQ clients. (1.5 CEU)
JoAnna Romero Cartaya, Ph.D., IPA Ethics Chair, will lead a presentation regarding ethics and sexual attraction in the therapeutic context. This will involve discussion of managing romantic and sexual attraction for both client and therapist. (1.5 Ethics CEU)
Cari Anderson, LMSW, will give a presentation on the role of client use of internet pornography in their relationships and sexual behavior. This will include guidance regarding assessment of use of internet pornography and implementing various intervention techniques. (1.5 CEU)
Accommodations: Hotel rooms are available at the Hyatt Place Hotel in downtown Des Moines for $135/night. Hotel rooms may be reserved by clicking here. Registration: Registration can be completed online or by mail. Registration fees are:
IPA Member: $175 ($190 after October 2)
Non-IPA Member: $225 ($250 after October 2)
IPA Student Member: FREE
Non-IPA Student: $60
Please complete the online registration process. You can indicate your preferred form of payment (check, credit card, bank account) on the form. If you elect to pay be check, you will be given instructions regarding where to mail your payment. Please make checks out to Iowa Psychological Association. If you elect to pay by bank account or credit card, the IPA Bookkeeper will send an electronic invoice to you via email to pay.
In order to keep our counts accurate, please register and pay the registration fee by Monday, October 2, 2017. If you have registered but have not paid by that date, your registration will be canceled. Late and on-site registrations will be permitted, but at the increased fee.
